How to Make Course Recommendations in PowerTeacher

*This video mentions selecting courses for the 20-21 school year. You need to choose whatever the UPCOMING school year is when making recommendations.*

For a Group of Students

  1. From the left Navigation menu on the Start Page, click Recommendations

  2. Click Create Recommendations

  3. Select a class or multiple classes by selecting the checkbox next to the class

  4. Use the check box next to Last Name to select all the students at the same time OR select specific students listed in the lower pane. Click Next

  5. Select XX-XX (Where XX-XX is the future scheduling year, i.e. 22-23) from the Year for Recommendation drop-down menu

  1. Search for and select the appropriate Course by selecting the checkbox next to the course name

    1. To see a list of courses by Department, use the filter option below:

      1. Click the plus (+) button and select Department

      2. Type your Department Code in the search box and click Apply

      3. A list of only your department’s courses will appear

  1. Enter Comments, as needed

  2. Once submitted, your recommendation will be added to your list of recommendations. Click the pencil icon to edit or delete a recommendation.


For an Individual Student

1. On the Start Page, click the Backpack icon next to one of your classes 

2. Select one of your students on the left-hand side

3. From the “Select Screens” menu, select Recommendations

4. On the Recommendations List page, click Create New Recommendation

5. Enter the COURSE NUMBER of the recommended course in the search box. As you enter the course number, a list of possible matches will appear. Click on the course you want.

Select XX-XX as the Scheduling Year (where XX-XX is the future year)

Enter comments regarding the recommendation, if applicable

6. Click Submit

7. Once Submitted, your recommendations for that student will appear as a list. Click on the

pencil icon to edit or delete your recommendation.
